About Hubei

In 2015, the province generated a GDP of 2.96 trillion yuan (US$474 billion), ranking eighth among China's provinces. GDP per capita was 54,882 yuan (US$8,263/ PPP: US$15,802) per year (ranked 11th among Chinese provinces). The level of prosperity in the province was thus roughly on par with that of Mexico and 102 % of the Chinese average.

In addition to many mineral resources, Hubei has important industrial sectors. Traditionally, these were the steel and iron industries, as well as the metal and textile industries. In the future, the emphasis will also be on mechanical engineering, electronics, automotive and chemical industries. Today, Hubei is already one of the three most important locations for the Chinese automotive industry.
